Bagua Corner Finder

Find which part of your home or room matches each bagua area, using the door-based or compass method.

1. Choose a method
2. Where is the front door on your floor plan?
3. Which area are you looking for?

How to use the Bagua Corner Finder

  1. Draw or print a floor plan of your home, or of a single room. Include the front door.
  2. Pick a method. The door-based method (used by most Western books and the BTB school) lines the map up with the wall your front door is on. The compass method (classical feng shui) lines it up with real compass directions.
  3. Tell the tool how your plan is oriented: which edge the front door is on, or which way the top of your plan faces.
  4. Pick an area to see where it falls, with its element, colours and simple ideas.

Why the two methods give different answers

The door-based map always puts wealth in the far left corner as you stand in the front door looking in. The compass map always puts it in the southeast, wherever the door is. The two only agree when the front door faces north. Neither is “right”; they come from different traditions. Pick one and use it consistently. Our step-by-step bagua guide and wealth corner guide explain both in more detail.

Irregular shapes

If your home is L-shaped or has a missing corner, draw a rectangle around the whole footprint and divide that into nine. A missing area is traditionally balanced with a plant, a light or a mirror on the nearest wall.

Feng shui is a traditional practice, not a science. Use the map as a way to think about your home, not as a promise of results.
